Many people, who know Watch US Grow, will also know about our charity shop in Kilsyth called Nursery Needs.
For those of you who do not know about Nursery Needs, we are a social enterprise project which collects and refurbishes children’s nursery equipment ready for re-sale to low income families and social groups. The project is operated by four people who have learning difficulties and are supported by two project workers.
Nursery Needs take in donations of prams, cots, toys and other nursery equipment; our employees then clean the goods up to an extremely high standard, ready for selling in our shop.
The main aims of our project is to provide employment for people who can often find it difficult to access paid work, to help families on low income by supplying equipment at an affordable price and also to reduce the amount of waste which goes to the landfills.
Nursery Needs are proud to say that we work very hard to achieve our aims and recently we have been working very hard to reach new customers and spread the word to other communities about the work that Nursery Needs does.
One of the many ways Nursery Needs tries to reach out to new customers, is through Pop Up Shops. We have been doing these shops for almost a year, however only recently we decided to branch out and go to a few different shopping centres throughout Central Scotland to help make Nursery Needs better known. We take a selection of stock from our shop and hope to sell it, while also talking to new customers about our services. We have travelled to Falkirk, Kirkintilloch and even Easterhouse with our shops, and are extremely happy to say that our shops in all these places have been a great success!!
Our new customers have been extremely happy with the standard of our items and also give a lot of positive feedback about the services we provide.
Venturing to these new locations have allowed Nursery Needs to expand and grow quite rapidly, we now have a lot more donations coming through from customers everywhere, who previously would have thrown their items away. We have also made more money, allowing us to continue to provide our high class service and to pay our staffs wages.
Our customers are always happy to see us and keen to know when we will be back with more items!
Despite only having a few weeks of the year left, there is no let up as we continue to travel around with the pop up shops and have many more planned for the New Year!!
